Summer Curriculum
This term in Reception, we will be learning about each other and our new school.
In Reception we learn through play!
Our continual provision covers the full Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which you can explore here.
Children will have lots of time every day to learn within the provision both inside and outside, both independently and with the support of their friends and adults in the environment.
Theme:
Though our topic ‘Transport’ we will be exploring:
|
We are reading a range of books such as The Naughty Bus and Whatever Next to support our learning.
|
Reading and Phonics
We are continuing to learn our Set 1 Sounds and special friends to support the development of reading. As a class, we will be reading high quality stories to engage children and spark their imagination. We will use these books as a stimulus for drama, role-play and artwork to develop understanding and language.
To support a love of reading, every Friday Reception children select their own story from the classroom to read with their families at home.
|
Writing
During free flow learning time, Early Years practitioners will be working with children to:
Use their sounds knowledge to write words and to begin to write short phrases and sentences.
Maths
Our maths learning will focus on:
Developing our understanding of numbers. At the beginning of Summer, we will counting beyond 20 and representing numbers to 10 in different ways. To support this learning, we are using egg cartons, blocks and our fingers.
P.S.E.D.
Our theme this half term is ‘Healthy Me’ where we will be thinking about how to look after our bodies and to be healthy and happy. This is a wonderful opportunity to identify different foods that we like, different exercises that we enjoy and other things that make us happy. This will also support us in developing skills such as trying new things and continuing to build strong friendships.
