Art
Why art is important
We want Sheringham children to be artists so that they can explore their creativity, experiment with a range of mediums and produce outcomes they can be genuinely proud of. We want our children to build confidence in applying taught skills and to aspire towards achieving their visions and beyond.
It is widely accepted that art can positively impact mental health, by offering freedom of expression, stress relief and the opportunity to practise mindfulness and so we strive to provide all children with enjoyable, creative experiences throughout their education.
Art also allows for the appreciation of different styles, celebrating many artists, cultures and the diversity within their own community and beyond.
How our art curriculum is designed
Our curriculum is informed by the National Curriculum and enhanced by subject expertise held within Sheringham and the Learning in Harmony Trust, as well as local opportunities and current events.
Art is taught in blocks of one or two weeks, several times a year. Where possible, topics are linked to other areas of the curriculum to provide deeper learning opportunities.
